With the South African economy barely growing, local startups are cautiously optimistic that a new Reserve Bank sandbox might be just the thing to help them get into more lucrative offshore markets.
A number of local tech companies such as Clickatell, Entersekt and Jumo employ hundreds of software developers in South Africa, whom they use as a base to carry out essential back-office work for offshore clients. Yet there could be many more such companies if it was easier for local startups to expand overseas.
