Bridging the divide
A rural community in Mpumalanga now has a multimillion-rand digital learning centre.

T-Systems South Africa has donated a R3.7 million digital learning centre to a community in Mpumalanga. Managed in conjunction with the Good Work Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to rural education and upliftment, and Hosanna Projects, the 400m² Hazyview Digital Learning Centre can hold up to 300 learners at a time. Speaking at the launch, Minister in the Presidency for National Planning Commission Trevor Manuel said the big divide in the world is between people who have access to information and people who don’t.
“Once you have access, frequently, you can learn at your own pace and this is a place where information has been made available to this community,” said the Minister. “We will begin to see our talent sprouted and nurtured and taken forward. The big issue for us as South Africans is that we’ve come from a most amazing history where we stared at each other across the barrel of a gun, but came together and said we must redesign our future.”
