According to Gartner, a third of enterprise software applications will make some use of agentic AI by 2028. It also forecasts that by 2028, agentic systems will autonomously make around 15% of day-to-day work decisions. This shift signals a transformation in how software behaves, moving from a passive tool that supports human decision-making, to an autonomous system that can set goals and execute tasks on behalf of users.
Brainstorm: Automation has been about bringing in systems that do what they’re told to increase efficiency. Autonomy adds a layer of intelligence to these tools, allowing AI systems to make decisions and act with a degree of independence.
