The past, as novelist LP Hartley observed, is a foreign country, and they do things differently there. The adage sprang to mind while recently scanning ITWeb's headlines when a name jumped out that, as another famous quote goes, I haven’t heard in a long time.
In among the usual mix of enterprise security and commentary on the relative merits of Large Language Models was this nostalgia-evoking gem: “SA Connect rebooted with private sector support”. SA Connect, the 12-year-old “strategy” that aimed to connect every single school, hospital and government building to the internet by 2020 was being hauled back into the public eye thanks to an injection of cash and some impenetrable details involving Broadband Infraco and Sentech.
