Carjacking has long been a threat to South African motorists. Now, a new danger is looming on the horizon – carhacking.
As cars increasingly incorporate digital technologies and connect with external networks, they’re becoming prey to hackers and tech-savvy thieves. Close to 400 security flaws, affecting many major car brands, were uncovered by cybersecurity specialists last year. They were found in locations such as vehicle infotainment dashboards, operating systems and electric charging facilities, according to US cybersecurity company VicOne.
