The biggest public sector issue is old and dysfunctional fixed telephony networks.

Eta Motlhabi, MTN Head of National Departments in Public Sector Sales

Things are firing on all cylinders at MTN, with eyes firmly focused on the value we can apply for the public sector. The MTN 5G rollout is steadfast on its path and the conversations we’re having in the public sector have gone beyond voice, data and device requirements, well into its other services requirements, such as unified telecoms and enabling the upgrade of ageing infrastructures to help national government, its departments and municipalities to reach all stakeholders across all regions, regardless of how remote.

In my opinion, ICT infrastructure refresh is the recurring theme required by the public sector and this is where budget allocations are leaning and where departments wish to keep investing. Public sector ICT departments are service providers in their own right, helping to fulfil their own customer requirements in order to enable them to be more efficient in addressing citizen issues, including fixing basic infrastructure.
