Cyber’s role in the Ukrainian conflict

It’s understood Russia has a significant cyber arsenal, and isn’t afraid to use it. So why hasn’t it?

With a physical invasion of Ukraine by Vladimir Putin’s Russia in full swing, many were expecting to see more of a cyber component to the conflict. Despite initial cyberattacks by Russia on Ukrainian government websites in the first week of the conflict, at the time of writing, a large-scale, sophisticated Russian cyberattack has yet to materialise.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that such attacks aren’t around the corner because Russia has repeatedly shown it has no scruples when it comes to targeting critical infrastructure and causing major collateral damage through acts of cyber aggression.
