"The decision to go to the AWS public cloud – although we still retain a multicloud position – was taken post a comprehensive total cost of ownership (TCO) evaluation, and comparison of multiple hyperscalers,” says Sasidhar Parvathaneni, executive head of department, AWS Cloud Services, Vodacom Business. “We went with AWS because the value went beyond the cost savings. Our main reasons were agility, the speed to develop and take apps to market and a proven toolset.

“We signed up for the AWS Advanced Migration Acceleration Program (MAP) and through the experience of doing this migration ourselves, decided to take this experience and expertise to our customers. From the beginning, we invested in developing local expertise; we realised that what we had learned on our journey was an invaluable asset, so we made it an asset that we are packaging and taking to our customers, regardless of the size of their enterprise.”
