Providing healthy support

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) is ensuring that blood and blood products are readily available for patients across the country by using an SMS service, supplied by Orion Telecom, to remind donors to give blood. SANBS sends out around 13 000 SMSs every day, or 400 000 per month, from its head office in Roodepoort to ensure that it collects the 750 000 units of blood required annually by the hospitals it serves.
