The elephant looked puzzled. Our large green vehicle had driven up to her herd so quietly that she hadn’t heard us over their collective chomping and tussling with branches.

She wandered closer, and used her trunk to examine the silent bonnet of our solar-powered Land Rover, then turned away. It was a delightful moment, and wonderful to sit in the midst of nature, free from the intrusive chugging of a noisy engine. Better still, we weren’t polluting the fresh air with diesel fumes or heating up the planet with carbon emissions.
