No country for remote workers

SA’s slow action on making it easier for foreign remote workers to stay for longer means losing out on international spending.

With the tourism sector still struggling to recover and the dire need to grow the wider economy, South Africa should be jumping to offer special visas to encourage remote workers to visit the country. Doing so, say experts, could help inject millions of rands in spending into the national fiscus.

President Cyril Ramaphosa in February announced that former Home Affairs director-general Mavuso Msimang would lead a review to look at whether to introduce a startup visa and a remote working visa.
