Loyiso Boyce is the founder and managing director of Clyrofor, a South African organisation specialising in information security solutions, and operating in 14 countries across the globe.

“After working for more than a decade as a salesperson in IT, I dreamed of building a professional environment that was different from the traditional corporate model,” Boyce says. “Born and raised in Soweto, my vision was to create a truly African entity, based locally, operating globally, and servicing clients with an international level of skill and expertise. Clyrofor’s mission is to have a billion safely connected nodes.”

Boyce admits that becoming an entrepreneur and building a brand is a tough journey. “As a new player in a competitive market, I soon learned what it meant to bootstrap a business. It took a massive amount of work and time before we landed our first contract, with an organisation that’s still our client today. As a business owner, creating jobs and revenue within South Africa is one of the aspects that brings me the most joy.”

The global skills shortage in IT security means that specifically skilled security resources are scarce, but Boyce has been able to hire and retain top-quality, highly experienced resources despite this shortage. “I believe it’s because people appreciate our culture. Our work environment is conducive to a fulfilling career, while respecting employees’ family and personal time. Most of our clients share this ethos, and they become a part of our tribe.”

What sets Clyrofor apart? Boyce believes his ‘secret sauce’ is the experience of doing business with Clyrofor. “We make sure that our clients are getting maximum value from what they already have. This point of difference is part of our DNA. Some organisations have spent millions on security and still have problems. We can help organisations leverage their existing security investment, their people and their resources in the most effective way. With some of the country’s best skills on our team, we are often able to provide more affordable solutions. We have strong supplier partnerships, and can adapt fast to changing circumstances to save on unnecessary costs.”

Boyce adds that Clyrofor’s clients appreciate a supplier who engages with them on a more personal basis, who can literally speak their language, and who can have a conversation about information security on a level they can understand. “Knowledge is power when jobs, careers, and an organisation’s survival are at stake if a breach occurs. We help our clients navigate their security landscape, make sense of their existing resources, and plan the best way forward.”

The right recipe

Boyce believes the skills shortage is the biggest problem in cybersecurity at the moment. “Because of this, good people are swamped across the board. They often don’t get time to think ahead or assess the bigger picture. This is where Clyrofor can assist with getting the best value from their current available technology, as well as helping with forward planning. We have our finger on the pulse of cybersecurity in South Africa, and a detailed picture of the landscape here.”

The security landscape is becoming commoditised, with the advent of AI and the ubiquitous supply of information making it even faster-moving and more complex. “Just as a skilled chef puts different ingredients together, so a skilled security specialist can create the right recipe for each organisation’s needs, and monitor it effectively,” he says.

“The benefit of using a specialist solutions provider like Clyrofor is that we have speed, experience, affordability, and top-class service delivery. Clients appreciate our level of engagement, our personalised attention to detail, and the quality of our follow up support,” Boyce says.
