Microsoft Azure technology helps WhereIsMyTransport use big data to improve public transport for commuters across Africa.

A lack of transportation infrastructure in many of Africa's emerging markets has given rise to a thriving informal transportation sector.

This, in turn, has led to a dire lack of data and understanding on the wants, needs, and behaviours of millions of the continent's daily commuters.

However, big data can help create viable and sustainable public transport development models to make the daily lives of millions safer, more convenient and more affordable.

Aided by Microsoft's Azure technology, WhereIsMyTransport actively maps transport routes, fares, stops, schedules and frequency, digitising and integrating public transport information and providing much-needed insights to guide decision-makers in cities and governments across the African continent.

Using this data as a guide, resources can be more efficiently allocated, and the infrastructure for an effective public transportation can be put into place. Informed decision-making is enabled by big data and the insights that can be extracted from it - the fuel that drives WhereIsMyTransport's mission.

WhereIsMyTransport is disrupting how public transport information is gathered and shared, integrating formal and informal transport systems.
