What does a modern application look like? It’s got to do with cloud, of course, as well as containers, and new architectures, and, increasingly, the edge. It’s also an increasingly complex world. VMware’s CTO for EMEA, Joe Baguley, is better placed than most to provide a bird’s eye view, and I sat down with him recently in Sandton, as he put all the pieces together. The company’s products are becoming vital for the running of enterprise workloads, as more and more software and services are virtualised.

He says VMware’s vision goes back eight or so years, ‘and it was around a vision of an operating system for datacentres’.
