LSD Information Technology officially announces reseller agreement with Canonical - Ubuntu

Johannesburg, 20 Jun 2013

LSD Information Technology has officially announced the reseller agreement between LSD and Canonical. This strong partnership between LSD and Canonical has been strategic, and has proven results. LSD is Canonical's partner of choice in providing the Ubuntu Advantage enterprise support package to existing customers, as well as gaining market share by attracting new clients to the Ubuntu offering.

This agreement enables LSD to become a reseller, delivering the comprehensive Ubuntu Advantage in the marketplace. Besides server, cloud and desktop deployment and migration solutions, offerings include Canonical's systems management and configuration tool, Landscape; comprehensive enterprise support services; legal assurance; and direct access to Ubuntu engineering experts.

LSD is currently the sole Ubuntu Advantage support centre in southern Africa, providing professional support backed by Canonical.

LSD has joined Canonical's growing global community of resellers, helping organisations to maximise the value they receive from an Ubuntu deployment. The technology is becoming increasingly popular in businesses as the most deployed OS on Openstack public, private and hybrid clouds, a server solution for scale-out and big data workloads, as a cost-effective desktop migration solution, and Ubuntu Advantage provides the crucial support that businesses need to feel confident in their selection of Ubuntu.

"We partnered with Canonical because we believe in the company and their passion and core beliefs for the open source and Linux community," said Sven Lesicnik, Managing Director, LSD Information Technology. "LSD believes that with the growing demand for enterprise open source in southern Africa, there are many opportunities for LSD and Canonical to partner up and deliver world-class software and solutions."

Since LSD's engagement with Canonical, LSD has successfully completed and deployed many Ubuntu projects in both the SME market, as well as larger enterprise IT environments. A particular point of reference has been the completion of a project for one of South Africa's biggest telecommunications companies, whereby an Ubuntu image was deployed to over 9 000 netbooks. LSD has also made its mark in the government sector by successfully completing Ubuntu and Landscape management projects.

Andrew Cooper, EMEA Channel and Market Development Manager, concludes: "We are pleased to announce this ongoing partnership with LSD, which is another exciting step for Canonical's business. Our products and services will make a tangible difference to LSD's customer base in their adoption and deployment of Ubuntu on the desktop, server or cloud, as well as being a natural fit with Canonical's proposition of partnering with best-in-breed open source solution providers globally."
